An Interview with John Dowd, Jr.

Hi, I’m John Dowd Jr., and I’m the author of Heroes, Mentors and Friends on Balboa Press. At fifty years old, I got the biggest gift of my life, the biggest blessing – I was let go. I was downsized out of a job and I found myself at a crossroads asking myself, “Do I want to program a tenth radio station or write this book that I’ve had inside of me for a few years?”

Inspired to Write

The book is part spirituality and part memoir of my radio life and my radio career. I’m still on the air each day on Sirius XM 70’s on 7 as a DJ. I share in the book some great ups and downs of my manager life in radio. I wanted to share those stories with readers that may be going through a tough time in their life right now and how they can tap into their higher self.

Motivated to Publish

Self-publishing is like, if you’re a new artist, you can publish your music and get it out there now. Technology has made it easy for the little guy to get their message out there. I had a great experience self-publishing with Balboa. This system is right there in your hands. While writing a book isn’t easy, the structure and the stage you’re put on by Balboa makes it attainable for someone that’s never done it before. I highly recommend it. I really, really recommend if you have a book in you and you’re thinking about doing it, stop thinking and just do it. Just pick up the phone, make the call. Call the mentor, the hero, a relative – anybody that you know will support you and give you the support you need. Then start writing and watch what happens. Your higher essence and your higher radiance will come out and before you know it, you’ll have a book and you’ll be a publisher.

It’s one of the most rewarding, unbelievable experiences you’ll ever have. Especially when someone comes up to you and says, “I loved your book.” And if they have a tear in their eye, that’s even more unbelievable. You won’t believe that you can touch someone like that and that’s one of the greatest, beautiful gifts about being alive and being where we are.
